Capstone Project
Virality or Validity is my fourth-year capstone project examining the misuse and impact of digital media on information credibility. The project explores how viral content can distort public understanding, with a specific focus on women’s health and birth control. Using TikTok as the primary platform of analysis, I investigated how trends, algorithms, and influencer-driven narratives shape perceptions of birth control, often prioritizing engagement over accuracy. The project highlights the implications of misinformation on women’s health decisions and emphasizes the responsibility of digital platforms and content creators in shaping informed discourse.
I was awarded the 2025 John Cross Memorial Award for Knowledge Transfer for my capstone video. This award recognizes students who excel at communicating complex ideas to non-expert audiences using both text and visuals, with a focus on ethical impact and community engagement.
